First Things First
You want to communicate with a person in a secure way and you'll use the Crypto Bone software for this purpose.
You've agreed on an initial secret (at least 20 characters) that you and your correspondent will use to establish your private secure communications. These are the necessary steps you'll need to take in order to prepare your Crypto Bone for use:
- First, you'll need to install the Crypto Bone software on your Linux computer. You might have done that already. If you are running a recent Fedora OS on your computer this is as easy as typing
dnf install cryptoboneas root. There are other ways to install, if you're running a different Linux distribution.
- When you first start the crypto bone GUI, a graphical input screen shows up that asks you for a user name. To bind the use of your Crypto Bone to a single user you have to enter the login name (most likely your own login name) into the input box and hit "setup". Now you've made your Crypto Bone your own, your personal login password is needed to use it from now on.
To bind the desired user to the Crypto Bone, you need to provide the superuser password, before you can do that. In addition, the necessary deamons are activated and you need to reboot your machine to have the encrypted data base generated by the cryptobone daemon.
This has to be done only once and you should not reach this screen again.
In essence, this is all you have to do to start secure communications with the Crypto Bone.
